The Gremlin probably is best known from the horror comedy movie "Gremlins" from 1984 and "Gremlins 2" from 1990. In the movies story, the Gremlin is practically an abberation of the cute and fluffy Mogwai. If the Mogwai is not treated correctly, he'll turn into a Gremlin (and produce more Mogwai or Gremlins). "Mogwai" in chinese folkore has the meaning of little demon or an evil spirit.

Gremlin is also a myth among pilotes and airmen, who claimed, this evil spirit would sabotage their aircrafts. [1]
