The phoenix is a long-lived bird associated with the element of fire. At the end of it's natural life, which in some cases are said to be over a thousand years, it will combust and leave behind a pile of ashes, from which it will soon after rise from, born anew.

The phoenix is said to date back to around 500 BC in Greek mythology, possibly inspired by the myths of Bennu in Egyptian mythology.
